Sleeping Drugs

by Liz on December 2, 2007

Well I followed some of my own advice from the ebook that accompanies the Sleep Sound Audio program, and it worked. Why don't we do what we know we should even when we are feeling bad and we know we could overcome it with the right actions? It is just the same with dieting! So now you know I am trying t lose weight- who isn't? But that is enough about me.Smile

I read an interesting article about sleeping pills this week. This is what it said, in brief and in italics (my additions are the bits not in italics):

Today’s Sleeping Drugs

A quick introduction to the medications now on the market:

Rozerem: First in a new class of drugs designed to act on the body’s melatonin receptors. It is more targeted than OTC melatonin suplements. Rozerem is more specifically targeted than regular melatonin supplements, specifically affecting the sleep center of your brain. …research has shown no side effects or withdrawal effects.

But Rozerem is included in the FDA’s list of drugs that should include a warning about unusual sleep behaviors. Also see side effects here: Rozarem Side Effects

Sonata: Of all the new sleeping pills Sonata has shortest half-life, That means you can try to fall asleep on your own. Then, if you're still staring at the clock at 2 a.m., you can take it without feeling drowsy in the morning. But check out the side effects here: Sonata Side Effects

Ambien: The most commonly prescribed sleeping pill, Ambien has a moderate half-life of less than two-and-a-half hours. This means that Ambien is great for helping you get to sleep but, like Sonata, could be less helpful if your problem is waking up wide-eyed in the wee hours.

And what do you know ambien is possibly the worst of the lot…

This is from Australia where Ambien is called Stilnox:

  • Pack size reduced to 14, down from 21
  • Binge-eating, sleep sex possible side effects
  • Two people died after taking Stilnox (Ambien)

Users of the drug… have complained about strange and potentially dangerous side-effects including sleep-walking over balconies and binge-eating while apparently asleep. At least two people have died after taking the insomnia medication, including a Sunshine Coast man who took his motorbike out in the middle of the night and crashed.

Well if you have downloaded my ebook "Go To Sleep Secrets", you will know that I believe you should avoid all of them, all drugs have side effects no matter what the drug reps say.

Repeat: All drugs have side effects.

What do you think about this?
