My daughter, a psych graduate, discovered this plan and it really worked for her baby. (I pinched her book so I could learn more and tell you about it. I hope to send it back before she notices!) All the reviewers on Amazon.com give it 5 stars. One even wished she could give it 10.

I have never seen a product with such fullsome endorsements before. You must try The 90-Minute Baby Sleep Program to help your baby sleep. It will restore you from zombie status to fully functioning human being again!

Product Description
For every parent who struggles with their baby’s sleep (and for every parent who wishes their toddler had better sleep habits), finally a straightforward, all-natural solution to help baby get the sleep she needs—both through the night and during the day.

A sleep researcher with a Ph.D. in neuroscience, Dr. Polly Moore has created a simple, foolproof method based on the basic human rest and activity cycle (BRAC), which occurs every hour and a half. According to the BRAC, baby should go back for a nap a mere 90 minutes after waking up—that’s right: 90 minutes.

The program is called N.A.P.S.—Note time when baby wakes up, Add 90 minutes, Play, feed, or pursue other activities, then, at the end of the 90 minutes, Soothe baby back to sleep. When baby wakes up again, whether after a short or a long nap, start the cycle over. And, although it sounds counterintuitive, frequent napping actually helps baby sleep through the night.

In a reassuring and accessible style, Dr. Moore explains how and why the program works; the benefits of napping—a happier, healthier baby with a headstart on cognitive development and emotional intelligence; how to implement it for babies at various ages, from two weeks to a year; and how to use it to solve common sleep programs, such as a baby’s need to be held, baby waking up too early in the morning, baby getting a second wind before bedtime, baby confusing day and night, and more. The Wire-O-bound book includes a guided journal for recording baby’s sleepy signals and sleep difficulties, a daily log for keeping track of baby’s nap times, and space to note baby’s milestones—all peppered with humorous, inspirational quotes.

From the Back Cover
Introducing a kinder, gentler, all-natural method to help your baby get the sleep he needs. Developed by Dr. Polly Moore, The 90-Minute Baby Sleep Program and its breakthrough N.A.P.S. plan work in conjunction with your baby’s basic rest and activity cycle. The method is simple, foolproof, and yields long-lasting results: truly restful daytime naps and consistent nighttime sleep.

Maybe you could try this method on yourself too if nothing else has worked. I don’t see why not after all our sleep does follow a 90 minute cycle too.

Go on try it! Its only $9.95 at Amazon.com Click here: “The 90-Minute Baby Sleep Plan”

UK residents can check this baby sleep book at Amazon.co.uk

I would love some feedback from anyone who has used this method. My daughter says her baby was so much more content once she implemented this.It really saved her sanity!

Several studies have shown that the ‘crying it out’ method of training a baby to sleep through the night (see Helping Baby Sleep) is effective at reducing sleep problems and producing less stress in parents. Everyone is rested and less cranky.

Some studies also show that a baby sleeping through the night has a beneficial effect on the whole family. Parents, older children and baby were found to be calmer and healthier and generally more peaceful when the baby stopped crying in the night. These findings are from controlled scientifically validated research.

The point of using the Crying It Out (CIO) method is to stop your baby from crying in the future. Babies who are comforted when they cry will continue to cry any time they feel like it and want their parents to comfort them, so in the end they may cry more than babies under the CIO method, resulting in more developmental damage. I could not find a double-blind, controlled study that said that the CIO method caused more damage than the attachment method…

In the studies that support the idea that babies who are allowed to “cry it out” will later have development problems, the researchers merely research how CRYING affects a child later in life– in other words, they assume that a baby who “cries it out” will spend more of her infancy crying than a baby that is comforted when she cries. However, as Richard Ferber and many “cry it out” experts detail, the point of using the CIO method is to stop your baby from crying in the future. Babies who are comforted when they cry will continue to cry any time they feel like it and want their parents to comfort them, so in the end they may cry more than babies under the CIO method, resulting in more developmental damage. I could not find a double-blind, controlled study that said that the CIO method caused more damage than the attachment method.

I found some studies which confirm that infants who are allowed to cry rather than be comforted immediately will end up crying less. One could take that to mean that the arguments of the scientists who say “crying it out” is bad because of the harsh effects that crying has on babies’ development are geared to the wrong theory– that in fact, “crying it out” results in an end result of crying less, so it results in better brain development than the attachment method. Under the attachment theory, the babies will cry more and have improper brain development. …

Never in any of these studies is a mother who attends to the baby during the day and lets him/her “cry it out” at night shown to have caused an attachment disorder.
(Research Crying it Out in Google Answers 18 Oct 2006 )

These studies show no problems occurred and in fact there were big advantages shown in families where the CIO (crying it out) method was used.

I used this method for all three of my children who never showed any ill effects from it. The first time I did this I was a little nervous. My baby cried for about 20 minutes the first night, which was hard but the second night he cried for only 10 minutes and on the third he didn’t wake at all. This pattern was the same for all 3 of them.

At one stage I had 3 children under 4 years old so I really needed my sleep. When the children slept through the night we all had a better time of it. I am sure I was a more patient and loving mother because I was not sleep deprived.

There was no controversy over “crying it out” or “crying down” when I was having babies so I was confident about doing it. It is much harder now when parents worry that “crying it out” may harm their baby. How can they leave their dear little one to cry unless they are completely confident that this is the right thing to do? I am sorry for today’s parents who have this to worry about.

If you are a new parent worried about what to do when your baby cries at night you might find this new ebook on getting baby to have a good night’s sleep very helpful. Its called “Sleepytime Secrets” and I haven’t read it myself but I have a recommendation on this from a very trustworthy source. Also see this article on baby sleep.

Given this how can the ‘crying it out’ method be anything but kind? Its kinder to baby and it is kinder to you. So don’t feel worried about using CIO method of getting your baby to sleep through the night.

You expect a baby to wake for feeding when it is newborn. You can cope with the tiredness for a while but how long should night time waking continue? When should you expect your baby to sleep through the night and how do you encourage your baby to do so?

Developing healthy sleep habits is very important and should be started from baby’s birth. At first a baby will sleep most of the time and only wake for feeds. A newborn doesn’t have any real sense of night and day but wakes roughly every four hours and screams for Mom, aka milk and cuddles.

At about two weeks you can help your baby distinguish between night and day, and can begin to develop their sleeping schedule. Play or sing with your normal tone of voice during the daytime hours when baby is awake and alert. Don’t worry about noises during nap time; your infant will grow accustomed to the fact that during the day there are noises and activity.

When your baby wakes during the night, it’s time to reverse the routine. Minimal lighting, noise and other stimuli are necessary to teach baby that it’s quiet time during the night. When he wakes for a feed, try not talking very much or being too animated and playful. The diurnal rhythm will begin to have its effect and eventually your baby will wake less in the night and will not need the 2.00 am feed.

This happens at around 6 weeks old. Your baby is old enough by this time to sleep through the night but will need your encouragement to do so. The idea is to let your baby cry when he or she wakes for the 2.00 am feed. The first night baby might cry for 20 minutes but it will do no harm. Steel yourself and wait. The following night baby will scream for a shorter time before going back to sleep and after a third night most babies stop crying in the night.

This may seem cruel, leaving a young baby to scream on its own. But it isn’t unkind at all. No harm comes to babies who are trained in this way to sleep through the night. In fact they benefit because they cry less and sleep more once they give up this night time attention. Another benefit is that you as a parent are better able to cope during the day when you can sleep through the night. This has obvious benefits for your baby.

Babies who are not trained in this way may continue to wake and expect attention for several years. Just think how exhausted you and your partner will be if that happens. It may even cause marital stress and that can’t be good for your baby either. More
